Jeanmarie Simpson · Glendale, Arizona

Jeanmarie Simpson is a theatre artist whose work has moved among stages, classrooms, film, public humanities, and community-based practice for more than four decades. As a playwright, actor, director, educator, and arts leader, she creates language-driven work about history, conscience, memory, power, and the lives that official stories too often flatten.

She is the Founding Artistic Director of Arizona Theatre Matters and the founder of Nevada Shakespeare Company. Her plays and performances have traveled across five continents. A Single Woman, her play about Jeannette Rankin, premiered at the Oats Park Arts Center in Fallon, Nevada, later played Off-Broadway at The Culture Project, and became a feature film featuring Martin Sheen, Peter Coyote, and Judd Nelson, with music by Joni Mitchell.
